Sandra Dahl, Owner and Director of Kids Express Learning Center, Inc. (KELC) is a former first grade teacher. She has a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Education from UW-Madison. Sandra taught education courses at the University of Minnesota, Purdue, UW-River Falls and UW-Madison before creating KELC. She has authored numerous professional articles on education, created children's instructional materials and worked on the state of Wisconsin's Third Grade Reading Test. Sandra has written and hosted an educational television series on "Strategies in Reading" and was co-developer of "Storylords," a children's instructional television series. She has served on committees of local, state, national and international professional organizations and presented numerous educational workshops. Sandra was President of the Wisconsin State Reading Association and served on committees of the International Reading Association. Both of these organizations sponsor research, education, create policy and provide direction related to literacy education.
Sandra developed the concept for Kids Express Learning Center one winter afternoon while waiting for her youngest son's basketball tournament to commence. The idea began as a "one-room schoolhouse" for preschoolers – a place where “kids” could “express” their creative ideas through interactions with peers and caring adults, hence the name “Kids Express Learning Center.” The germ of an idea grew through conversations with her husband, Will, and their four children, Tim, Eric, Heather and Matthew. Animals were added to the original plan for a country school, and before long the motto "quality education in a rural setting" was coined. KELC has been nurturing children and helping them build strong foundations for self-confidence and a lifetime of learning for over 20 years. Today, KELC offers exceptional programs for children from infancy through fifth grade and is home to alpacas, sheep, goats and fish. In addition to solid curriculums for the many ages we serve, KELC enriches young children's learning experiences and development through classes in music, physical education, gardening, nature study, world languages, and so much more.
Sandra loves being surrounded by her family, the staff and children of KELC, animals, gardens and flower beds and books. She enjoys walking, dancing, planting flowers, cooking, listening to WNWC radio, reading, planning new projects for KELC and going to Badger sporting events. Most of all, she enjoys the antics of her eight grandchildren, Charlie, Zoey, Christian, Isabella, Camila, Zachary, Kailey, and Landon Dahl.
