I've been asked to complete forms I previously completed for my child. Must I complete them again?

Forms must be updated periodically. Health forms must be updated following each physical examination (every 6 months, minimally, until age 2) and when childhood immunizations are given or are due, per state requirements (parents can take simple steps to waive vaccine requirements). Additional forms must be updated as to indicate infant sleep, eating patterns, etc., and all contact information, etc., must be kept current, per state requirements. Our Children’s Office manager helps keep parents informed of state and center records requirements.

CURRICULUM FAQs

What are the teacher/child ratios at Kids Express Learning Center?

Lead teacher to child ratio varies from 2.5 teachers to 8 children in the nurseries, 1 to 8 in the three-year-old room to 1-6/7 in the kindergarten rooms. However, ratios are lower during the day when special lessons occur. Kids Express Learning Center is privileged to have a number of specialists on staff to offer a variety of experiences to the children. Therefore, ratios vary throughout the day.

Are staff members trained in First Aid and CPR?

Yes! All staff members receive professional on-site training in First Aid and CPR, and are re-certified every 2 years.

What are the qualifications of KELC's teachers?

Master and Lead teachers a four-year-degree in Education or a closely related field, such as Child and Family Studies, minimally.

What discipline methods are allowable at KELC?

Our school and teachers are well versed in and committed to our professional discipline of positive child guidance. We create rich environments with many child-directed choices, model appropriate interaction and respect for others, and provide children with the words to express themselves, their needs, wants, and upsets. Positively and fully engaged children have fewer behavioral struggles. When positive encouragement and problem solving are not enough, a teacher may redirect or offer a child a choice between two options. Additionally, KELC staff are receiving professional training in Nurtured Heart, a relationship focused methodology aimed at bringing out the best in children through compassion – their own and that demonstrated by their teachers.

Does KELC provide lunch and/or snacks?

We provide mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks that include two food groups. A snack menu is posted in each classroom. Parents must provide lunches and, per state regulations, a lunch must include something from each of the four food groups. We recommend use of an ice pack with your child’s packed lunch and a food thermos when you want something to stay warm.

How much involvement will my child have with the animals?

Children greet and observe the animals in our woodlands, pastures, and on campus, daily, and their teachers, including our Science/Nature specialist, discuss animal needs, care, and behaviors with young learners (in addition to the S/N specialists pre-planned lessons) while supervising interaction, such as petting and feeding the animals through the pasture fence. In fact, our very special goats share fence lines with the playgrounds and are always happy to see the children - knowing that back rubs and a generous supply of dried leaves are only a few small, enthusiastic steps away, year-round.

In addition to the weekly goal-oriented, interactive lessons our Science/Nature specialist shares with KELC’s young, enthusiastic learners (lessons are based on a wide range of subjects and the program is a favorite among KELC children and families), the children are invited to observe veterin when Dr. Judy, our veterinarian, comes to visit the animals, and sheep and alpaca shearing events are attended by all classrooms every spring.
