Younger Preschool

Over in the Meadow, one of KELC's newer classrooms, is located in The Dahlhouse, Building #1.  In Meadows, two-year-olds  enjoy rich  indoor and outdoor activities. Teachers help the little ones make  their classroom a  home-away-from-home during the summer months.  Staffed by college-degreed teachers, the classroom provides developmentally appropriate, child-centered activities to promote growth in all  areas of child development.

A cozy loft furnished with comfy chairs invites children to crawl up the steps, grab a book, and spend quiet time alone or with a friend or two.  The block center, dramatic play and sensory table are popular with this age group.  However, all seven areas of the preschool curriculum form the backbone of each day's activities.  Specialists in science/nature, gardening, art and physical education join classroom teachers to promote learning throughout the summer camp sessions.

Three-year-old preschoolers are welcomed into this pleasant, full-day classroom which is located in Building #3.  The two-story maple loft captures the attention of children entering the classroom for the first time.  Each day, teachers plan activities designed to meet the broadening skills of the children who walk through the doors.  Preschool activities in language arts, multicultural studies, author studies, math/science, music and art are woven into the weekly lesson plans to encourage school readiness.

Cooperation, empathy and self-control, so important to success in the early years of school are modeled and practiced in all  classrooms at KELC.  Individual, as well as small and large group activities are planned to meet the developmental needs of children.  Specialist led classes in Nature Study, Physical Education, Gardening and Art round out the rich general curriculum offered by KELC's preschool camp teachers.

The Giving Tree

Four year old preschoolers enjoy calling The Giving Tree (GT) their homeroom.  This classroom was formerly the kitchen-dining area of Will and Sandra Dahl's home.  Large banks of windows on the east side of this beautiful classroom allow children to enjoy a view of the gardens, play areas and nature center.

Teachers plan goal based lessons to promote children's growth in literacy, math, science, social/emotional, fine arts and more.  Theme based activities help children learn to communicate, cooperate, empathize and gain confidence in their abilities. Special classes in  PE, Nature Study/Science, Gardening,  Art, Yoga and Gymnastics  round out the regular classroom teacher's lesson plans.
