Summer Camps

"Quality Education in a Rural Summer Setting!"

Summer on Prairie View Farm is a wonderful time for children of all ages.  All thirteen classrooms take on a new look as teachers prepare indoor and outdoor activities for summer fun.  Kids Express Learning Center's campus offers several shady playgrounds, a tennis court, and eight acres of grass just waiting to welcome children for loads of fun in the sun!

Each day, children meet with their camp teachers to engage in high quality learning activities related to camp themes.  Morning and end-of-day gatherings, lunch, and snack are held with homeroom teachers.  Throughout the rest of the day, homeroom teachers accompany the children to enrichment classes, in which children learn new skills and explore areas of special interest.

Ages and Camp Opportunities

*We've increased the age limit to 5th grade in 2012!

Children 6 weeks through 5th grade attend our eleven-week summer camp.  Infants and toddlers participate in the entire eleven week session; however, older children may attend one or both of our camp sessions.  New themes and activities are presented during each session.

Summer Camp Dates & Schedule

*We've added an additional week to our camp in 2012!

Session I:  June 12 - July 13, 2012 (5 weeks)

Session II:  July 16 - August 23, 2012 (6 weeks)

Hours for preschool and school age children are 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., with options for extended care; 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.  Infants and toddlers tuition includes enrollment from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Summer Camp Activities

All classrooms serving children two and older are scheduled to attend four enrichment classes each week.

Classroom Camp Meetings
Each day, children meet with their camp teachers to engage in high quality learning activities related to camp themes.  Camp teachers, or "homeroom" teachers, accompany the children as the children explore their interests through the many wonderful enrichment programs.  Enrichment experiences are headed by teachers who specialize in the specific enrichment area, be it art, dance, nature, etc...

Prairie View Farm Children's Garden

All summer, children taste, play, learn, and "work" with KELC's master/children's gardener in the vegetable, fruit, and flower gardens.  The organic gardening program at KELC is one of our specialties and is tremendously well-received by parents, children, and teachers, alike.

Sports for Kids
Games, team sports, and individual challenges abound as the 8 acre campus hosts a variety of athletic activities for children.

Creative Connections Cottage
Budding artists visit the art teacher to create masterpieces to share with their families!  The summer picnic and art auction are a family favorite at KELC.

Nature Studies
Farmer Will’s Nature Center Bus, nestled into KELC’s campus forest, provides a unique classroom for nature studies classes during Summer on the Farm.  Children are fascinated by their excursions into the forest with Mr. Rich, KELC’s nature specialist, knowing that a new adventure awaits them each trip they take.

Along with the forest area, gardens, meadows, the pond, and our animal park form outdoor classrooms for Mr. Rich’s popular science based nature program.  Each week, hands-on activities help children learn nature concepts but also help them gain a respect for and an appreciation of nature’s bounty.

School-Age Workshops
Kids Express Learning Center’s Summer on the Farm program is all about fun!  Home room teachers plan fun, interactive activities promoting literacy, math, writing and learning.  These activities help children retain what they have learned throughout the school year.

What makes Summer on the Farm a unique experience for school agers are the many Enrichment Programs offered.  In the morning, School Age summer campers select either gymnastics, karate, film/photography or culinary classes.  In the afternoon, following lunch, the choices change to gardening, sports, art or nature/science classes.

Physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth form the foundations of Summer on the Farm for School Age children.  Energetic, fun-filled activities are alternated with moderate home room activities to enrich the children’s lives and provide memorable camp experiences.
