'Group of the Month' Award
Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Environmental Club awarded Kids Express After School “Roots & Shoots” Club the Group of the Month Award for December 2011. At KELC, we endeavor to teach children about the world in which they live; to appreciate not only what is accessible to them, but to also see how they can contribute, through their own talents and efforts. Our approach includes building awareness and appreciation for nature and community, and by establishing a “Roots & Shoots” Environmental Club for children attending our after school program, we are better able to meet this goal. Through “Roots & Shoots,” Kids Express has increased opportunities for children and families to become active stewards for our community and environment.

“Quality Education in a Rural Setting” has been our battle cry since we opened the doors to Kids Express Learning Center’s classrooms over sixteen years ago. There are so many issues competing for our attention when we make plans for our student’s growth and development. At the top of the list, though, is our need to help children think for themselves and learn to rely on diverse sources of information when they experiment with creative problem activities. Questioning minds will, hopefully, lead to solving crucial problems as the world turns!

On Wednesday, March 2, 2011, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday and national “Read Across America” day. Sponsored by the National Education Association, Read Across America is a reading motivational and awareness program that invites children and families in every community to celebrate reading.
