We know children to be capable, curious, self-directed learners who respond positively to warm, loving guidance. Children crave intellectual stimulation and depend on encouragement and support to grow emotionally, morally, and socially strong.
Our goal is to provide quality education in a rural setting, to gently guide children in their exploration of the world while encouraging our “kids” to “express” themselves in a myriad of ways. KELC is committed to providing the highest quality care and early childhood learning experiences. We do our best to foster children’s confidence in themselves and a desire for life-long learning.
Our Facilities and Programs
Kids Express Learning Center (KELC) is set on Prairie View Farm, a picturesque farmette on Madison's west side. Our ten-acre property has pastures -- home to our resident llama, sheep and goats, as well as a sports court, pond, forest and nature trails, a nature study bus, organic gardens, music studios, gyms, and beautiful, bright, well equipped classrooms.
KELC’s outstanding Literacy and Writing, Math, Social/Emotional Development curricula, along with our exceptional teachers and child portfolio process ensure the highest quality classroom learning experiences. Additionally, KELC makes full use of its abundant resources and learning environments to support specialist taught enrichment programs, such as Nature Studies (comprised of strong science curriculum and animal studies), Organic Gardening, Art, Music & Movement, Physical Education, as well as After School Programs for preschoolers and school-age children.
Our Professional Staff
KELC’s early childhood and kindergarten teachers have, minimally, bachelor’s degrees in early childhood/primary education or related fields. All staff members have completed coursework necessary to meet state requirements for working with young children, and meet both state and NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accreditation hiring requirements. Annual conferences, in-services, workshops, coursework, networking with other teachers, and, of course, ongoing classroom experience help our staff maintain professional skills.
New enrollments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. A non-refundable registration fee is charged per child. Children may be placed on a "wait list" until a desired opening becomes available. Once placement is accepted by parents, parents sign an enrollment agreement and complete additional forms for their child's file. Enrollment for the academic school year occurs in January for current students and in February for new students. However, Applications for Enrollment may be submitted at any time.
Hours of Operation
Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the school year. Vacations follow local public school calendars. "Summer on the Farm" camp is offered each summer, for children through (including those having completed) fifth grade. Children attend camp 2, 3 or 5 full days. Half-day programs are not offered during the summer.
Academic school year fees are due on the 15th of the month. Fees may be paid monthly, by the semester, or yearly. Summer camp fees are billed in two installments. Please contact us for the current fee schedules.
